Kit Features
The model's articulation is characteristic of early HGUC kits. The head is mounted on a ball joint, though its movement is limited by the cannon panels. The arms connect to the torso via a peg joint, allowing them to swing and lift, while the elbows offer a flexion range between 45 and 80 degrees. The waist can achieve a full 360-degree rotation if the torso is slightly lifted to clear obstructions.
Its primary armament, the cannons, can pivot up and down, and the arm-mounted missile launchers can also rotate. A key feature of this kit is its excellent parts color separation, which minimizes the need for detail stickers. The treads are molded from a soft, flexible plastic for easy assembly but remain static once built. Additionally, the torso cockpit can be removed to reveal a seated pilot figure of Hayato Kobayashi inside.
The kit is compatible with the HGUC RX-78-2 Gundam (2001 release), allowing modelers to swap the upper and lower halves of both kits to recreate a hybrid configuration seen in the video game Gundam 0079: The War For Earth.
RX-75 Guntank Overview
The RX-75 Guntank is a prototype unit developed by the Earth Federation Forces as part of 'Project V' to counter the Principality of Zeon's Mobile Suits. Classified as a long-range support Mobile Suit, its design combines a Mobile Suit torso and arms mounted on a tank tread base. Its armament consists of two 120mm cannons over the shoulders and a pair of four-barrel missile launchers on each arm. It features a dual cockpit system, with the primary one in the torso and a secondary one in the head. During the One Year War, it was primarily piloted by Hayato Kobayashi.
The Guntank is a classic design from the original series. What are your thoughts on this early HGUC kit? Let us know in the comments below!
