The XXXG-01W Wing Gundam, an emblematic Mobile Suit from the After Colony era and protagonist of the Mobile Suit Gundam Wing series, joins Bandai Spirits' Entry Grade (EG) line. This release commemorates the anime's 30th anniversary and was initially revealed at the 63rd Shizuoka Hobby Show. The Entry Grade line, revamped in 2020, focuses on offering an accessible and high-quality assembly experience, ideal for modelers of all levels, without requiring specialized tools or adhesives. Given the popularity of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing in the West, this kit aims to attract both new fans and nostalgic followers.

Features
The Entry Grade line is distinguished by its ease of assembly using the "snap-fit" system, which allows parts to be pressed together without glue. Thanks to the "touch gate" design, parts can be manually removed from the runners, eliminating the mandatory need for cutting nippers. It stands out for its excellent color separation straight out of the box, minimizing the need for painting, and usually does not require stickers for details like the eyes, which are achieved through the part separation itself. Despite their simplicity, EG kits often offer a level of articulation and aesthetic proportions comparable to the High Grade (HG) line.
The Entry Grade Wing Gundam features refined proportions and dynamic articulation. Regarding color separation, the shoulder-mounted vulcan cannons (Machine Cannons) are molded in gray plastic, as are the gray sections in the groin area—details that would require painting for greater fidelity in the HGAC Wing Gundam kit. The use of "C-clip" type joints for some articulations has been reported, simplifying assembly.
One of the most discussed features of the Wing Gundam is its ability to transform into Bird Mode. Despite initial claims about this capability, direct and detailed reports from the Shizuoka Hobby Show, including testimonies from Bandai staff and observations of the exhibited prototype (such as the apparent absence of necessary hinges in the arm claws), indicate that the Entry Grade kit will not be transformable. This omission is consistent with the Entry Grade line's philosophy, which prioritizes simplicity of assembly, a low part count, and reduced cost—aspects that complex transformation mechanics would compromise.
The new Entry Grade XXXG-01W Wing Gundam showcases refined proportions and is ready for easy assembly.
Contents
- Parts to assemble the Entry Grade 1/144 XXXG-01W Wing Gundam, molded in various colors.
- Buster Rifle.
- Shield.
There is no clear mention or visual evidence of the inclusion of the Beam Saber or its beam effects in the Shizuoka Hobby Show reports. Based on other standard Entry Grade kits, which focus on the most essential armament to maintain a low part count and adjusted price, it is highly probable that the Beam Saber will not be included.
XXXG-01W Wing Gundam
The XXXG-01W Wing Gundam was secretly developed in Colony L1 by Doctor J, as part of the five original Gundams of Operation Meteor, a colonial reprisal against the United Earth Sphere Alliance and OZ. Sent to Earth in A.C. 195, it is considered the most balanced of the initial five Gundams, sharing a design lineage with the XXXG-00W0 Wing Gundam Zero. Built with Gundanium alloy, it was designed for covert operations and guerrilla attacks. Its designated pilot is the young man known as Heero Yuy, trained to be a perfect soldier.
The Wing Gundam stands out for its superior mobility thanks to its aerodynamic wings, which allow for atmospheric flight and great spatial maneuverability. It has a "Search Eye" as a secondary optical sensor in the chest and a powerful self-destruct system. Unlike the Wing Gundam Zero, the XXXG-01W Wing Gundam forgoes the ZERO System, prioritizing pilot skill.
The Wing Gundam's armament in lore includes the Buster Rifle, a powerful particle cannon; Vulcan Guns integrated into the head; Machine Cannons on the shoulders; two Beam Sabers stored in the shield, functional even underwater; and a Gundanium alloy shield that can also be used offensively. In the anime, the Wing Gundam can transform into Bird Mode, an aerodynamic configuration for high-speed flight.
