About Sayla Mass

The importance of Sayla Mass to the saga lies in her complex history. Her true name is Artesia Som Deikun, daughter of the philosopher Zeon Zum Deikun. Following her father's assassination and the rise of the Zabi family, she and her older brother, Casval, were forced to flee and adopt new identities. While Sayla sought a peaceful life, her brother became the infamous Zeon ace, Char Aznable, aiming to avenge their father.

The war pulls her into the conflict aboard the White Base, where she transitions from a communications officer to piloting combat units like the G-Fighter and even the Gundam itself. She demonstrates a natural aptitude and latent potential as a Newtype, which allows her to sense her brother's presence on the battlefield.

The Pilot Suit and the Battle of A Baoa Qu

The choice to depict Sayla in her yellow pilot suit is no coincidence, as it directly links her to the climax of the One Year War: the Battle of A Baoa Qu. On December 31, U.C. 0079, the Earth Federation Forces assaulted this asteroid fortress, the Principality of Zeon's last line of defense. Amidst the chaos of the battle, which saw the collapse of Zeon's high command and the final duel between Amuro Ray and Char Aznable, Sayla actively participated as a pilot. This design choice transforms the figure into an artifact representing a crucial historical moment in the saga.

This G.M.G. figure of Sayla Mass captures a pivotal moment from the One Year War. Which other classic characters would you like to see get this detailed 1/18 scale treatment? Let us know in the comments below!
