Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, the sixth series in the Gundam franchise, first launched in Japan in 1995 and became a pivotal entry point for Western audiences after its broadcast on Cartoon Network's Toonami block in 2000. The series introduced a new generation to the "Real Robot" mecha genre and the complex political narratives that define the Gundam universe. To commemorate three decades of its influence, Bandai Namco Filmworks has scheduled a special event at the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC).

Bandai Namco Filmworks will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic mecha anime at San Diego Comic-Con 2025.

This celebration aims not only to honor the series but also to serve as a platform for major announcements regarding the future of the entire Gundam franchise.

Scheduled Activities at San Diego Comic-Con

From July 24 to 27, 2025, Bandai Namco Filmworks will host a series of activities centered around a main exhibition booth (#3829) and a dedicated panel. The booth will feature a statue of the Wing Gundam, a comprehensive display of Gunpla model kits, and exclusive 30th-anniversary merchandise available for purchase.

The main event is the panel titled "GUNDAM Showcase – Featuring 30 Years of Gundam Wing," scheduled for Thursday, July 24, at 7:15 PM in Room 6BCF. During this showcase, the team will present updates on the 30th-anniversary project and reveal news related to the broader Gundam series. For international fans, the panel will be streamed live on the official Gundam YouTube channel on Saturday, July 26, at 7:00 PM (JST).

Confirmed Panelists

The panel will feature key members from the series' original production and its influential English dub cast, including:

  • Mark Hildreth (voice of Heero Yuy)
  • Scott McNeil (voice of Duo Maxwell)
  • Brad Swaile (voice of Quatre Raberba Winner)

Brad Swaile's participation is particularly noteworthy, as he has voiced the English protagonists of three major Gundam series: Amuro Ray (Mobile Suit Gundam), Quatre Raberba Winner (Gundam Wing), and Setsuna F. Seiei (Gundam 00). Joining them is Naohiro Ogata, Executive Gundam Producer at Bandai Namco Filmworks, whose presence strongly suggests that significant announcements about the franchise's future direction and global strategy are forthcoming.

The Pilots of Gundam Wing
The five main pilots from Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Heero Yuy, Duo Maxwell, Trowa Barton, Quatre Raberba Winner, and Chang Wufei.

The English voice actors for Heero, Duo, and Quatre will be present at the anniversary panel.

Anticipated Franchise Announcements

The panel is expected to unveil new information on several current and upcoming Gundam projects. Beyond details of the Gundam Wing 30th anniversary, it is likely that international distribution plans for titles like Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX and the film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM will be announced. Furthermore, licensing confirmations for new manga projects, such as Mobile Suit Gundam Eight, could also be revealed for the English-speaking market.

Mobile Suit Briefing: XXXG-01W Wing Gundam

The Wing Gundam is the lead mobile suit piloted by Heero Yuy. Deployed to Earth as part of "Operation Meteor" to combat the United Earth Sphere Alliance and its military unit, OZ, the Wing Gundam is a symbol of the series. Designed by the legendary Kunio Okawara, its key feature is the ability to transform into "Bird Mode," a high-mobility flight configuration for atmospheric combat. It wields an iconic arsenal, including the immensely powerful "Buster Rifle." Both the mobile suit and its pilot reflect the series' core themes, exploring the nature of war and its psychological impact on soldiers.

Gundam Wing was a gateway series for many fans. What are your favorite memories of the show, and what are you hoping to see from this 30th-anniversary celebration? Let us know in the comments below!
