Released in June 2000, the High Grade Universal Century (HGUC) RMS-106 Hi-Zack stands as a historic piece in Bandai's modeling lineup. As one of the first twelve kits in the series, it helped set the standard for 1/144 scale Mobile Suits from the Universal Century. This model kit represents a foundational mass-production unit for the Titans forces during the Gryps Conflict.

Kit Features
The kit's design is a clear reflection of the engineering of its time. The head is mounted on a ball joint that allows for full rotation, though with limited tilt. The arms, connected via a peg, can rotate 360 degrees and raise horizontally up to 70 degrees, while the elbows achieve a 90-degree bend. While waist rotation is minimal, it marks an improvement over earlier models in the line that lacked this feature entirely. The knees have a bend of about 70 degrees, and the feet offer limited posability. The kit requires additional work to hide seam lines, which are present on the forearms, legs, and backpack. A key feature is its compatibility with weaponry from other kits, such as the Heat Hawk or Beam Rifle from Zaku models, expanding customization options.

About the RMS-106 Hi-Zack
Despite its aesthetic reminiscent of the Principality of Zeon's MS-06 Zaku II, the RMS-106 Hi-Zack was developed by Anaheim Electronics for the Earth Federation Forces, using data from the MS-06F-2 Zaku II Type F2. It became the mainstay of the Titans and was also utilized by Neo Zeon forces after being captured. It was the first mass-production Mobile Suit to feature a panoramic monitor and linear seat in the cockpit as standard. Its armament is varied, but a technical limitation of its low-power generator forced pilots to choose between operating the beam rifle or the beam saber, as it could not supply power to both simultaneously. Notable pilots include Jerid Messa, Kacricon Cacooler, and Sarah Zabiarov.
As one of the earliest HGUC kits, the Hi-Zack is a piece of Gunpla history. What are your thoughts on this classic Mobile Suit? Let us know in the comments below!
