Bandai Spirits has announced the re-release of a special edition kit in its Master Grade line: the MSR-00100S Hyaku Shiki Kai Mass Production Type. This model will be available as an exclusive item through its Premium Bandai online store. This release is a "compatible kit," providing all the necessary parts to build either the mass-production variant or the iconic MSN-00100 Hyaku Shiki. A key feature is its non-chrome, matte gold molded plastic, a deliberate choice that offers an ideal base for modelers who wish to apply custom paint techniques and achieve a personalized finish.

Features

This model incorporates several newly molded parts to faithfully represent the Mass Production Type's design. The head features a unique shape that projects backward, while the shoulder armor has been redesigned with hardpoints for weaponry. The backpack is also a simplified piece, lacking the characteristic wing binders of the original Hyaku Shiki but featuring new mechanical details on its side sections. The direct-injection, non-chrome gold plastic provides a superior surface for primer and paint adhesion, eliminating the need to strip pre-existing finishes and giving the modeler complete control over the final look.

MSR-100S Hyaku Shiki Kai Mass Production Type

The MSR-100S Hyaku Shiki Kai Mass Production Type is a variant developed by the AEUG during the Gryps Conflict. Its design, based on a damaged Hyaku Shiki Kai, was systematically simplified to reduce manufacturing costs and facilitate more efficient production. The philosophy behind this mobile suit was pragmatic: to create a high-performance unit that could be produced in greater numbers to complement general-purpose models like the MSA-003 Nemo. To achieve this, complex components such as the backpack's wing binders were eliminated, and specialized weaponry was replaced with more standardized, cost-effective options, such as a 6-tube multi-purpose launcher instead of the shoulder-mounted beam cannons of the original Kai.

Despite standardization efforts, the project was ultimately canceled. The high manufacturing costs, even in its simplified form, and the conspicuous nature of its gold armor—which made it a high-priority target on the battlefield—rendered it unsuitable for mass deployment. The project's failure serves as an example of how the logistical and economic realities of war often prevail over technological idealism.
